The Bus
The Bus, Merced's Regional Transit System, was formed
from the consolidation of four former local public transit
service providers in July 1996. Today "The Bus" is the
single public transportation service provider for all of
Merced County.

City of Merced
The City of Merced is located in the Central Valley of
California. The City is located approximately 110 miles
southeast of San Francisco and 310 miles northwest of Los
Angeles. The City has a population of about 73,610 and
serves as the county seat. Merced is located on Highway
99, the dominant north-south freeway in California, and is
served also by Highways 140 and 59.

Merced County

heart of the San Joaquin Valley, the world's most
productive agricultural area, and spans from the coastal
ranges to the foothills of Yosemite.

UC Merced opened Sept. 5, 2005, as the tenth campus of
the renowned University of California system and the first

Merced College
The Merced Community College District is composed of
most of Merced County, the area of the Chowchilla Union
High School District in Madera County, and the Dos Palos
Joint Elementary School District.
